Enter the OpenWorld Application Design Contest!

$20000 in prizes will be awarded for creative application designs on the STM32 EvoPrimer!

Submit your projects here at the stm32circle website, for the opportunity to win valuable cash prizes and contribute to promoting technology that facilitates life for people suffering handicaps or limiting medical conditions.

Contest Objectives

Applications for the OpenWorld design contest will be on the theme of Human Assistance – Technology Assisting People with Disabilities and Limiting Medical Conditions. Contest entries must be applications designed to assist:

  • persons with reduced mobility or mobility handicaps
  • visually impaired
  • hearing impaired
  • aged people
  • persons with limiting medical conditions

The objective of the contest is to explore the use of technology and mobile appliances and offer applications that assist people by providing:

  • Navigation assistance (indoor/outdoor positioning, navigation, environment awareness)
  • Visual assistance
  • Auditory assistance
  • Physical monitoring (heart rate, breathing, temperature, ...)

Project Submissions

  • Projects must be entered at www.STM32circle.com
  • Closure for applications is Midnight December 14th, 2011. No entries will be accepted after this time.
Final Judging

December 15th to January 15th 2012

  • A panel of technical and lay judges from the Autonomie project will evaluate the entries based on technical and functional criteria.
Prize Presentations

February 1st 2012

  • The winners will be individually contacted and the prizes will be give during a specific presentation before end of January 2012.

Project Details

Participants are not limited in the number of projects that they propose.
Submissions must conform to the following guidelines:

Hardware

Projects must use an original, unmodified "EvoPrimer” or Open4 designed by Raisonance. OPTIONAL hardware extensions can be used, with respect of the following.

With every project, the added components must be commercially available.

For every project containing added hardware components, the participant must supply the schematic and send a prototype to Raisonance of all the additional hardware (without the EvoPrimer). The additional hardware must be received at Raisonance before the closure of the competition.

Software

Software tools: the project must be developed using the RKit-ARM from Raisonance.

Software source: the complete project source files must be supplied as well as the executables. Note that all the projects will be published on the www.stm32circle.com website. Therefore, the participants must accept the rules of this web site.

Software architecture: the project may be programmed like an application which would be compatible with CircleOS or not.
The projects mustn’t contain any risks for other users nor for third party users (i.e. the project mustn’t contain anything dangerous or destructive).

Documentation, comments: every project must be accompanied by a document describing the software and the hardware components used (if any). All source files must be readable and clearly commented on.

Acceptable formats of documents are Microsoft Word, ASCII text, PDF. Acceptable formats for graphic files such as photographs, block diagrams, screen shots and schematics are JPG and PDF.

All documentation and comments must be written in English. 

Who may submit a contest entry?

Everyone can enter, considering the following exceptions:

  • Persons participating directly in the Autonomie project and the judges of the competition are not authorized to participate.
  • Anyone living in a country, province, or state where the competition is prohibited, taxed, or otherwise restricted under national, federal, provincial, state and local laws, rules, or regulations is ineligible. 
  • Participants who are residents of a country, state, or province that prohibits unregistered contests or requires the organiser of the competition to post a bond are ineligible. 
  • Participants who are residents of a country where this type of competition is not authorized under certain conditions (particularly your age) must verify these conditions. 
  • There is no limit to the number of projects that can be submitted by any one participant.

How to submit a project concept

The Projects must be submitted through the Internet on the stm32circle.com website.

The registration form will contain the following information:

  • Surname, name and address. This information will only concern the winners and will be asked directly by email.
 Eligibility
  • All participants must certify that they comply with all the eligibility conditions.
 Project Title
  • The project title mustn’t include more than 40 characters.
 Abstract
  • Description of the project (no more than 512 characters) addressing specifically how it responds to the theme of the contest.
 Project Description

The description will be posted as a unique ZIP containing any documents, images, presentations of schematics that are needed to describe the application idea in the context of the contest's theme.
Include:

  • General description of the functionality
  • Description of hardware used in the applications with specific attention to modification that you forsee making to the hardware

Documents may be in PDF or plain text format. Illustrations, photos or schematics should be in a common file format JPG, GIF, PDF, ...

How to submit a final entry for judging

The Projects must be submitted through the Internet on the stm32circle.com website.

Any person, whether a winner of the concept phase or not, may submit a contest entry for judging.

The registration information will contain the following:

  • The project title mustn’t include more than 40 characters.

Attached Project
(compressed ZIP file)
  • The project will be posted as a unique ZIP file containing all files, executables and documentation. The participant must confirm that all files and sources used respect all the copyright trading laws. Also the participants must accept that their project will be published on the stm32circle web site with others so that the project is visible for others to see (the projects will be visible by the end of the submission period).
  • The participant must also certify that the software application used respects all the software specifications written in the chapter above.
Optional Hardware
  • If the project has hardware elements included, the participant must certify that all these elements are in accordance with the hardware specifications written in the chapter above.
  • If you win, the prototype will be kept at Raisonance.
  • If you don't win, Raisonance can send the prototype back to you if you wish.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

How to win

All entered projects will be judged by the panel of judges selected by the Autonomie project members based on the following:

  • Originality: 30%
  • Utility in the context of the Autonomie theme: 30%
  • “External quality” (users point of view): 30% 
  • “Internal quality” (of the design): 10%

Participants must agree to abide by all the decisions made by Autonomie panel of judges, which shall be final and binding with respect to all issues relating to the competition.

The judges will be chosen by Autonomie project members according to their knowledge and experience within microelectronics, and concerned participants in Autonomie. Autonomie members will provide a site to develop exchanges among participants in order to evaluate the projects, provide feedback and suggest additional resources.

The final decision made will be in the hands of the judges.

Prizes (to be confirmed based on sponsoring levels)

The following prizes will be awarded to the best project concept proposals in the initial phase:

  • EvoPrimer PRO version with STM32 target board

The final cash prize awards will be awarded from a total prize allotment of $20000. Value for prize categories, special prize categories and winner will be announced via the site www.stm32circle.com.
