Using Primer2 in SPI mode

I'm having a devil of a time trying to get the Primer2 to work reliably in slave mode. I am getting bytes through, but very, very inconsistently. Genre, if my master sends the sequence 1, 2, 3, ... to the Primer2, depending on how things are configured, it misses more than half. Or it sees them, but when reading the port all I get is 0. Or 0xFF.

When I use voltage dividers to bring the voltage down to 2.6V, it still doesn't work. In fact, all I get are 0x00.

The SPI mode settings are identical on both sides, but I tried all possible permutations and it doesn't work any better.

So clearly the port is configured properly, but it's just. not. working. I've already spent more way too many hours trying to get all this going right, and I'd really love to have it working reliably. Any ideas?

Re: Using Primer2 in SPI mode

could it be a flow control problem?  Have you tried slowing down the master?  I am just starting to play with the spi in primer2 but I haven't gotten far enough to know if I am seeing the same problem you have.
