Another new and broken Primer2?

Hi..

My first post here and it looks like an "its broken" post.

I recently purchased a new Primer2 and it is not taking a charge.  The unit
works when connected via the USB port, and I have upgraded it successfully
to CircleOS 3.8.  Self-test reports battery at 51% 8.84v, but that never changes.
Unplugging the cable and it loses power in <5s.  Only the red LED is seen
regardless of the the time spent "on charge".

Unless I am doing something very wrong.  Any thoughts?

Re: Another new and broken Primer2?

The issues with the battery are not so frequent.
Just in case you didn't charge enough:
    Red led means 'charging'.
    Green led means 'fully charged'
both means no battery or dead battery.
When you say that it loses power, is it the automatic shutdown, or do you see that it gradually looses power ?
In any case, 8.84V does not make sense... The battery voltage should be less than 4.3 volt (and more than 3.6).

Re: Another new and broken Primer2?

Hi, Francis..

It was a typo and should have read "3.84v".

I have had the unit connected for 2 days and the red LED remains on, with
an indicated 51% charge.  I figure that this is not normal.

When I remove the USB cable, the unit dies in a few seconds.  If it is in sleep mode
then reactivating it will cause it to go into "Welcome to..." where it dies horribly
(tries to keep doing its thing and the speaker squarks, etc).

Sometimes there is a gradual fade out, again lasting 3-5s.

Could it be that the Li-Ion is old and needs replacing?

Yes, it seems that the battery is dead. We don't have any stock of batteries here, but I will ask our subcontractor to ship us a few ones.

Okay.  What are the next steps, Francis?  Me to send you the unit?

Re: Another new and broken Primer2?

Hi.
My primer2 seems to have a dead battery too. I bought it last february at Embedded World and I didn't use it very much.
Now I can see that booth LEDs, red & green are on. It makes no difference if I pull the jumper.
During Test battery voltage varies bet. 0.25 and 4.26 volts.
If I disconnect USB power if off inmediately.
The new battery circuit of the Primer2 was specially interesting for me.
Can you help? Thanks.

Eduardo
