I have been using old avr 8-bit MCU for a while. It is okay but you cannot do much math with it. I recently (30 mins ago!) found the primer 2 and I think it is amazing what you can get for $60. Just placed order. Making a UAV, will have this as the main brains and will communicate to 8-bit avr to do dirty work like control servo/motor etc.
