Primer2 GSM Modem

Hi guys,

If you were to put the battery voltage directly onto the external connector instead of V_ext, you could hook up a GSM / GPRS modem and you'd have something pretty useful ... after all, all the handshaking is present for a full USART implementation and a couple of other lines could provide the other control signals.

Cheers
Peter

Re: Primer2 GSM Modem

We output Vcc=2.8V (with about 100mA available).

Re: Primer2 GSM Modem

You can connect the Primer1 or 2 to any GSM / GPRS / UMTS phone using the UART.
Then use standard AT commands (over UART) to control the phone (http://www.traud.de/gsm/index.html)

Advantage of a regular cellphone is that it has it's own battery.

Re: Primer2 GSM Modem

Note that the battery voltage is available... at the jumper. You could easily use it as a connector for a small cable that will port the switch on your target board (and you could there derivate the power for your application). That's quite easy!

Re: Primer2 GSM Modem

Is this connection to the batteryjumper also allowed in this years contest?

Yes. The jumper and the connector exist. It's not a modification of the hardware.
