STM CircleOS forum / Source for Vishay IRDA transceiver TFDU4203-TR1?

I've been looking for a source for the unpopulated Vishay IRDA transceiver TFDU4203-TR1. None of the Vishay distributors sell individual pieces and I don't really need a whole reel of 750 of them at this time. I've applied for a pair of samples directly from Vishay but have yet to get any response.

Does anyone know of a supplier in the US that will sell small quantities of this part, or failing that, is there another Vishay part number that is equivalent for our purposes? I think an infrared Primer-to-Primer link would be a very interesting tool.

I just discussed with my colleague in charge of the manufacturing. He explained to me that the footprint of the IRDA transceivers always depend on the manufacturer (no standard footprint).
He knows about the minimum quantity too (reel of 750).
Conclusion: it seems to be a difficult issue!

How's about you buy a reel, and sell them individually on this website using PayPal to collect the money...?

That's a great idea! Unfortunately, there are only 569 people currently registered with the website at this time (I'm sure this number will go up) so even if everyone chipped in for one, I'd still have 181 of the little jewels sitting on the shelf - more than I can justify today.

If everyone got *two* transceivers (which is always more fun) ... then maybe we're talking a do-able deal.

I'll keep looking for smaller quantities of these things, and if I find them, I'd be happy to let everyone know. Remember that you also need surface mount resistor and two capacitors in addition to the transceiver. Maybe I could go into the STM32 Primer hot-rodding business

Today (27 Oct 2007) I received a pair of IrDA transceiver samples from Vishay. You can request them directly from their web site:

If anyone else is looking for TFDU4203 Rapid will have this in stock by the end of November.

See www.rapidonline.com and search by either TFDU4203 or the Rapid order code 55-0790.

Price is £1.50 for 1+, dropping to £1.00 at 250+.

The Primer will also be available at around the same time.

Is there any documentation for this mod? Don't currently have a primer but would be ideal if I am ready to mod when I get it (I think I've got a transceiver left over fram another project), I didn't know about needing the resister and cap.
